Guide Meridian Neighborhood
Annexed to Bellingham in the 1990s, the Guide Meridian/Cordata Neighborhood is one of the fasted growing and most popular areas of the city. In the 2000 census, about 3,200 people listed the Guide Meridian Neighborhood as home. That number is certainly higher today as residential development continues in Cordata and along W. Bakerview Road.
The Cordata potion of the neighborhood was originally developed as a suburban business park, with greenbelts and tree-lined streets. Over time, the area has changed to include a significant residential component (the number of total homes in the neighborhood is now around 2,000).
The Whatcom Community College campus is a significant presence in the neighborhood. Trails and greenbelts are planned in the Division Street right-of- way north of Bakerview and connecting Northwest and Eliza Avenue South of Bakerview. More parks and other recreational opportunities are needed in this rapidly growing area.
