Where is Bellingham, Washington?

Bellingham is located in Washington State, which is better known as The Evergreen State. The City of Bellingham lies along the western shores of Bellingham Bay and stretches south to Chuckanut Drive. From Bellingham, both Vancouver, BC and Seattle are about 1 ½ hour drive away to the north and south.

If you are planning a visit to Bellingham some recommended places to stay would be the Fairhaven Village Inn, The Chrysalis Inn, or the Hotel Bellwether. If you are on a tighter budget you can checkout; the Best Western Lakeway Inn, the Hampton Inn, or the Holiday Inn.

Bellingham also offers some wonderful fine-dining opportunities. Some local favorites are The Oyster Bar on Chuckanut Drive, the Cliff House Restaurant, Dirty Dan Harris, the Black Cat, or Mambo Italiano.

What is there to do in Bellingham?

There are so many different things to see and do while you are visiting and living in Bellingham, WA. If you are looking for some fun indoor activities during the day, check out the Whatcom Museum of History and Art, Allied Arts, the Bellingham Aquatic Center, or the Sportsplex.

Bellingham and Whatcom County also offer an abundance of outdoor activities. The City of Bellingham has one of the most extensive trails and parks system that you will find anywhere in the United States. Chuckanut Drive is often featured in automotive magazines and is the perfect place to take a scenic cruise.

Lake Whatcom, Lake Padden, and Lake Samish are Bellingham's largest 3 lakes. If you are looking to go wakeboarding or waterskiing, Lake Whatcom and Lake Samish are perfect places for your water sport of choice. Lake Padden is a bit smaller and is a great place to take a swim or kayak, as motorized watercraft are not allowed on Lake Padden.

If you are looking for a little drive and a bigger adventure, be sure to check out the Nooksack River and Mt Baker. The Mt Baker Ski Area is located just 1 ½ hour drive east of Bellingham. Mt Baker offers some of the best powder skiing and snowboarding in the continental United States. If you are visiting during the summer months, Mt Baker offers amazing hiking trails for the day hiker.

Nightlife in Bellingham, WA

Although Bellingham is well known for amazing outdoor activities, the city offers a great night life as well. The Mount Baker Theatre is a popular location for theatrical and musical events. Bellingham does have 3 conventional movies theaters, but if you prefer independent films the Pickford Cinema is the perfect place for you.

For those that enjoy live theater, community talent is abundant at the Bellingham Theatre Guild, as well as the Performance Arts Center at Western Washington University. The Bellingham Theatre Guild does offer open auditions, so don't be shy if you have some acting skills that you would like to shine.

Bellingham also has a strong local music scene. The Bellingham Independent Music Association (BIMA) provides a foundation for local musicians. If you enjoy listening to local music be sure to check out Boundary Bay Brewery & Bistro, the Wild Buffalo, and the Fairhaven Pub and Martini Bar as well as other great music venues in Bellingham.

Great Reasons to live in Bellingham?

In addition to the wonderful outdoor life and cultural events, Bellingham also offers some very unique opportunities. The Fairhaven District is a popular destination for both tourist and Bellingham locals. Fairhaven has the "old town" feel and is one of the oldest established neighborhoods in Bellingham. Fairhaven is a great place to park your car explore on foot. Fairhaven has 17 restaurants and 43 shops all located within just a few city blocks. Fairhaven is a must see destination if you are visiting Bellingham.

Bellingham offers several continuing education opportunities. Western Washington University is the largest with 13,000 students. Bellingham is also home to Whatcom Community College and the Bellingham Technical School.

One of the most exciting placing in Bellingham is the downtown waterfront revitalization. The Port of Bellingham recently purchased the 130 acre waterfront site that was previously owned by GP. The 130 acre site is currently in the planning process. It is anticipated that this waterfront will become the target for both light industrial and commercial growth in Bellingham. This waterfront area will also likely be the location for much needed marina space in Bellingham.

Bellingham marina capacity is currently full, so the expansion of more space will be well received by the boating community of Bellingham. The marina in Bellingham and Bellingham Bay are great destination and launching points for yachters looking to explore the San Juan Islands, British Columbia and Alaskan waters.
